NxLite™, a company specializing in advanced sustainable coatings and polymer materials, has opened its $9 million Advanced Innovation & Manufacturing (AIM) Center in Canton, Michigan. This 45,000-square-foot facility will serve as the company’s new U.S. headquarters and house cutting-edge nano-coating production lines and a state-of-the-art materials science R&D hub, according to a company press release.
Scaling Energy-Efficient Coatings for Glass and Polymer Applications
The AIM Center marks a major step forward in NxLite’s mission to commercialize its proprietary low-emissivity (low-E) coatings, which are designed to reduce energy consumption in residential, commercial, and industrial applications. These coatings are compatible with both traditional glass and lightweight polymeric materials such as acrylic (PMMA) and polycarbonate.
“Our AIM Center comes online at a time of unprecedented demand for innovative coatings and energy-saving materials,” said David Mather, CEO and Chairman of NxLite. “We’re accelerating adoption across industries focused on performance, sustainability, and carbon footprint reduction.”
Revolutionizing Transparent Glazing with Advanced Materials
NxLite’s breakthrough coating technology offers permanent, open-air-stable, low-E coatings that work in both monolithic and multi-pane window systems. Applications include:
-
Residential and commercial window systems
-
Display doors for commercial refrigeration
-
Retrofitting solutions for existing buildings
-
Lightweight glazing for the transportation sector
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, nearly 30% of a building’s heating and cooling energy is lost through windows. NxLite’s coating technology directly addresses this challenge with next-generation materials designed for both performance and efficiency.
A Materials Innovation Engine for Sustainable Growth
The AIM Center not only enhances NxLite’s coating production capabilities but also serves as a collaborative hub for innovation in polymer science and high-performance materials. The facility will support joint development agreements with industry leaders, further expanding the company’s footprint in sustainable coatings and advanced materials.
The new center is expected to create 39 high-skilled jobs in the region. NxLite secured a $1.5 million Michigan Business Development Program grant through the Michigan Strategic Fund in collaboration with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to support this expansion.
Global Scaling of Coating Technologies for Carbon Reduction
Named to the prestigious 2024 Cleantech 50 to Watch and awarded top Building & Infrastructure Technologies Venture at the C3 Summit, NxLite is rapidly becoming a global leader in eco-friendly coatings and materials innovation.
“With scalable coating solutions for both glass and polymers, we’re addressing critical needs in energy efficiency, weight reduction, occupant comfort, and environmental impact,” said Mather. “Wherever visibility and thermal control intersect, our coatings deliver unmatched performance.”
