Ellsworth Adhesives and Surrey NanoSystems Expand Access to Vantablack 310 Through Partnership

It can be sprayed with both manual and automated application systems, delivering a durable, handleable finish.
Vantablack® is being used across applications where controlling light is essential.

Ellsworth Adhesives, a global distributor and technical partner in specialty adhesives, sealants, and coatings, and Surrey NanoSystems today announced a strategic collaboration to distribute Vantablack® 310 and related ultra-black optical coatings worldwide. The agreement pairs Surrey NanoSystems’ proprietary ultra-low reflectance coating technology with Ellsworth’s established engineering support, application development, and materials qualification infrastructure—bringing to market the first Vantablack® formulation designed for in-house application using conventional spray equipment.

Vantablack® 310 is engineered to meet demanding optical, mechanical, and environmental performance requirements. The coating delivers extreme light absorption while maintaining durability across wide temperature ranges, low outgassing characteristics, high resistance to atomic oxygen (ATOX), and a lightweight profile suitable for aerospace and defense-adjacent applications. Unlike prior generations, Vantablack® 310 is designed to be applied, handled, and cleaned by end users within controlled manufacturing environments.

“We selected Ellsworth Adhesives as our lead distribution partner because of our shared commitment to technical rigor, integrity, and customer-centric execution,” said Nick Crofts, CEO of Surrey NanoSystems. “Ellsworth’s deep expertise in specialty materials, its global network of engineering sales professionals, and its disciplined approach to qualification and compliance make it uniquely positioned to support customers adopting Vantablack® 310.”

Expanding Access to Qualified Ultra-Black Coating Solutions

Vantablack® 310 enables manufacturers to address advanced performance requirements, including:

  • Reduction of glare and optical artifacts in imaging and sensing systems

  • Enhanced absorption of stray light and improved thermal emission in space and aerospace applications

  • Management of visual and radar detectability

The coating may be applied manually or through automated spray systems, brushed or rolled onto surfaces, or applied via immersion processes. Ellsworth’s technical teams support customers in evaluating application methods, developing process controls, and aligning coating use with production, regulatory, and supply-chain requirements.

“Ellsworth is proud to support the global rollout of Vantablack® 310,” said Jay Richardson, Vice President of Sales at Ellsworth Adhesives. “Our role extends beyond distribution—we work closely with customers to assess design intent, optimize application and dispensing methods, and prepare for scale with qualified, reliable supply. This partnership provides direct access to a best-in-class ultra-black coating, supported by experienced technical and regulatory guidance.”

For engineering teams, Vantablack® 310 enables new optical and mechanical design possibilities. For compliance and sustainability stakeholders, the material is isocyanate-free, low-VOC, and aligned with REACH and RoHS requirements.

Samples, application consultations, and scalable dispensing solutions for Vantablack® 310 are available through Ellsworth Adhesives at ellsworth.com.
