BASF
BASF won the top award for the best performance in CO2 emissions, noted in a report published by the non-governmental organization CDP. BASF’s anchoring of the fight against climate change within the company was cited as another reason for the decision, according to a BASF news release.

BASF’s integrated coating process reduces energy consumption by eliminating one coating and curing step in the automotive process.

“For more than 50 years, BMW and BASF have shared a common goal: sustainable mobility,” said Dr. Martin Brudermüller, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, at the awards ceremony. “We see this award as both recognition of our longstanding collaborative partnership as well as motivation to continue to be a pioneer and a trendsetter in terms of sustainability. As such, we have set ourselves the target of CO2-neutral growth until 2030.”

Arkema
Arkema also won an award in the Sustainability category for high-performance polymers derived from sustainable castor oil.

According to an Arkema press release, during the award ceremony, top management from BMW commented that “Arkema has initiated a sustainability project involving 2,700 India castor farmers, who have managed to increase their crop yields by 55 percent in just 2 years. Arkema uses castor bean derivatives to produce organic plastics for use in vehicles such as the BMW i3″.

Accepting the award on behalf of Arkema were Erwoan Pezron, PhD, global president of Arkema’s Technical Polymers and Virginie Delcroix, Arkema’s vice president of sustainable development.

Samsung SDI
Samsung SDI, which also won a Sustainability Award, joined BMW Group and BASF SE, November 29, 2018, in a project to enhance sustainable cobalt mining.

The BMW Supplier Innovation Awards were attended by 120 of BMW’s 3,000 suppliers. Awards were also distributed for contributions in Productivity, Efficient Dynamics, and Emotional Experience.
